The Brand Hub champions cutting edge research in digital media and advertising technology and provides consultation services that positively impact our community.

Today is September 28. The Brand Hub is building off a legacy of pioneering research long associated with the University of Illinois. We do this by consistently gathering data sets and broadening our research partnership base with corporate brand management and communication teams. We are also committed to sharing our expertise with local organizations in the areas of social media, data analytics, media production and brand strategy education. The Hub for Brand Innovation ensures this dedication to exploration and people through these labs and workshops.

Brand Hub Fellowship Program

The Brand Hub has created the Digital Media Management Fellowships Program. These are merit-based scholarships for individuals dedicated to advanced study in a variety of digital media fields, such as Computational Advertising, Media Planning and Management, and Marketing Research.

Susan Muirhead

Associate Director

Susan is currently the Visiting Associate Director of the Hub for Brand Innovation and Advertising Technology in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising in the College of Media. Before this, she was a Producer and Account Executive at Technicolor Digital Cinema where she worked with motion picture studios to distribute hundreds of theatrical releases to cinemas around the world. She has also served as the Multimedia Content Coordinator for the non-profit Illinois Legal Aid Online and has been a part-time faculty member of the Cinema Art + Science department at Columbia College Chicago and the Department of Media and Cinema Studies at the University of Illinois.

Akshari Nidugala

Programming Coordinator

Akshari is a first year student at the iSchool pursuing her Master’s in Information Management. Prior to attending the University of Illinois, Akshari worked as a Business Analyst for two years at a Fortune 500 company. Her career interests lie in the areas of consulting, project management, and marketing. She enjoys her work with the Brand Hub and feels passionately about the mission of promoting Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Consulting, and Professional Development. By concentrating on these areas, she is confident that students will gain the necessary experience and knowledge for a successful career in the Advertising industry.

Danielle Rowaiye

Social Media and Marketing Intern

Danielle currently works as the Social Media and Marketing Intern. She is a sophomore in advertising who helps with messaging and event promotion. She enjoys using her photography and design skills to develop creative content. She grew up in Lombard, Illinoi with an older brother who is also in college and a younger sister who is her mini-me. Yanyun (Mia) Wang

Research Assistant and Media Production

Assistant

Mia Wang is a PhD. student at the Institute of Communications Research in the College of Media at the University of Illinois. Her areas of interest center on branding, consumer behaviors in virtual environments, VR/AR applications in health communication, and algorithm awareness. She works on brand-related data analysis, data visualization, and theory/concepts and constructions. She holds a B.A. in New Media Studies from Communication University in China and a M.S. in Advertising from the University of Illinois. Mia also has four years of experience in commercial video production and television programming.

Mike Yao

Principal investigator

Mike Yao is a Professor of Digital Media and the Head of the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising in the College of Media. He teaches a digital media & marketing course at the Gies College of Business as an affiliated professor of business administration. Mike's scholarly work focuses on digitally mediated social behavior and human-technology interaction. He is an Associate Editor of a flagship journal in communication research since 2018 and an editorial board member of two media journals for the past eight years, Professor Yao received his Ph.D. in communications in 2006 from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Syeda Rija Zaineb

Web Developer

Rija is a first-year student at the iSchool pursuing Master’s in Information Management. She has three years of professional experience in the areas of digital marketing, application development and web development. She is currently working as Web Developer at Brand Hub. She is responsible for creating and maintaining Brand Hub and associated websites. She aspires to pursue a career in consulting and project management.
